International Jury and Children's and Youth Jury of Generation

International Jury of Generation

In each of the section's two competitions, the three members of Generation's International Jury will be awarding the Grand Prix for the Best Film (worth 7,500 euros) and the Special Prize for the Best Short Film (worth 2,500 euros). The prizes in the 14plus competition are provided by the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Agency for Civic Education), while the prizes in the Kplus competition are sponsored by the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk (German Children’s Fund).

As section manager Melika Gothe comments: "The juries of Generation make up a central aspect of our work: they stand for the collective experience of cinema and subsequent discussion of the films. The jurors of the Children's and Youth Jury first came to Generation as viewers themselves – now they have the opportunity to express their unique perspectives and expectations of cinema in their work on the juries, and people are listening to them. The International Jury, for which we were able to recruit three wonderful cinema enthusiasts this year, brings together perspectives from filmmakers and the film industry. We are delighted that our long-time partners continue to support Generation in lending visibility to cinema for young people that goes beyond conventions."

The Children's and Youth Jury

From audience member to Berlinale jury participant: together, the seven members of the Children's Jury and the five members of the Youth Jury attend festival screenings and choose the recipients of the Crystal Bears for the Best Short and Feature Films in the Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus competitions. All young Generation audience members aged twelve and up can apply to be a member of the 2025 juries by filling out one of the film questionnaires distributed in the cinemas during the festival, or by visiting www.berlinale.de/generation.

Independent Jury AG Kino Gilde – Cinema Vision 14plus

An independent jury formed by AG Kino Gilde e.V. consisting of three cinema operators, will also award one feature film from the Generation 14plus competition in the scope of the 74th Berlinale. The winning film joins the annually growing programme of Berlinale Spotlight: Generation Cinema Vision 14plus, initiated in 2023. This nationwide cinema tour is symbolic of a cooperative commitment to the strengthening of young film culture beyond the festival. VISION KINO – Netzwerk für Film und Medienkompetenz has also committed to enriching the project by providing accompanying materials and moderation guidelines for educational personnel and cinema operators.
