The Boy Who Wouldn't Kill

Anjo lives with his family on a ramshackle chicken farm in a post-apocalyptic desert. His father is prepared to use force to defend their farm against desert pirates and wants Anjo to learn how to kill. But Anjo can’t even kill a chicken. He secretly dreams of a life somewhere civilised – although he isn’t even sure that such a place exists. But then, when their attackers leave behind a motorbike on the farm one day, Anjo heads off into the desert to steal petrol from the pirate’s camp.
