In his existential film noir, director Pen-ek Ratanaruang draws a nightmarish picture of a Thai society in which politicians, generals and rich business people create laws by which they choose not to abide. According to Ratanaruang, “Corruption, as practised by this ruling class, is the norm in our democracy.”
