Stay Awake
© Alejandro Mejia
Scouring the miserable streets of their small town in search of their mother has become a routine for these two brothers. They have no idea where they will find her this time, but they know it is going to be a long night, one that will end in the waiting room of the local hospital. Another night during which the pair will try to stand by their mother and keep her upright, and awake. The brothers’ routine is supported by certain rituals, by the little, routine gestures they share, and the same old conversations with the all too familiar nurse. But they are also sustained by the hope that things might turn out differently. When even this hope begins to disintegrate a decision is made to do something drastic.
