Jean Christy is a reporter to the core. So when she learns that the publisher is planning to shut down the newspaper, she takes him to task without a second thought. She manages to talk publisher Pat Buckley into re-hiring the editor-in-chief he detested, Bob Lansford. But Bob is a wily PR man who uses his journalistic omnipotence to further a private smear campaign against a millionaire who, unfortunately, just happens to be the grandfather of Pat’s fiancée Lorri, who promptly kicks the publisher to the curb. Bob convinces Pat that Jean Christy is in love with him, all the while flirting strategically with Lorri. The men are clueless to the fact that Jean has never had any doubt about who the right man is for her ... “I don’t wear pants, but I’m a newspaperman”, the reporter says, expressing perfectly Rosalind Russell’s penchant for roles that place her squarely on male territory. In this tumultuous comedy of errors, she uses her investigative talents to succeed where the millionaire’s bloodhounds regularly fail – in tracking down Bob, played by Errol Flynn of Robin Hood fame. It was a kind of dry run for her star turn as the reporter Hildy in His Girl Friday.
