Alma nestles solemnly against the tree her mother planted long before she died. Soon it will be sold, along with the rest of the plantation. Paz, her older half-sister from the city, is already sorting out the paperwork and getting the sale underway. Meanwhile, Alma is doing everything she can so that she and her grandmother can stay here, where her mother’s memory lives on. A chapter closes for three women – and in the process, the youngest comes of age.

The screenwriter and director was born in Monterrey, Mexico. She also works as an actor and appeared in her first leading role in the indie drama Fish Bones. She is a fellow of the 2020 Film Independent Project Involve and the 2021 Sundance Institute Screenwriters and Directors Lab and was also selected for the 2021 Women at Sundance Adobe fellowship. Her short film Alma and Paz won the Jury Award at the Morelia International Film Festival.
