Haunting Sounds and Deafening Silences
From the age of six, Lebanese sound designer Rana Eid has been absorbed by the echoes of war that scored her childhood. All through her career, she has created soundscapes for war-torn cities, and others to accompany their psychologically broken residents. In this session, Eid discusses the act of listening, but also the research process she goes through upon embarking on a new project, and her role and responsibilities as sound designer. She reflects on the many acclaimed Lebanese, Arab, and international productions she has worked on, drawing from her latest in particular: Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s 2025 Berlinale Competition title Hot Milk.
