Beautiful Susanna has gone through no fewer than six husbands in thirty-five years of married life. Sadly, none of these better halves have survived marriage to this elegant and attractive woman; it seems this merry widow has simply loved them all to death!
The first man with whom she was to tie the knot was the major; he really did look dashing in his uniform. Perhaps he was a little too old for Susanna at the time but what of it – love’s blind they say.
Shortly – very shortly – afterwards she went down the aisle with Jimmy. He sang so beautifully and was so good-looking that she was simply bowled over. But, in the end, Jimmy turned out to be something of a dark horse …
In her heart of hearts, Susanna is a romantic and very responsive to poetry. That’s why her next choice of husband was Wasiullah Khan, who wrote poetry under the pseudonym Musafir. By day the gentle poet, by night he was a different animal altogether.
Husband number four was Nicolai Vronsky from Moscow, with whom she experienced her very own version of Anna Karenina.
With so many dead husbands it was only a matter of time before the police appeared on the scene – in the shape of Inspector Keemat Lal. He turned out to be such a wonderfully helpful and gentlemanly-like person …
After his demise Susanna did begin to feel rather melancholy. All these dead partners even began to turn her stomach. Fortunately, Dr Modhusudhon Tarafdar’s mushroom diet and even the man himself proved to be a real life-saver! Alas, even he was not to be the last in her long list of spouses. She is currently in love with her seventh husband …
